Market players stated that that the crop estimation studies are completed meanwhile. Rumours are going around that the crop will be in between 70.000 mt up to 80.000 mt. Market players expect the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest to announce the new crop within the next week.
The export of fresh figs is continuing, but the sales prices are this week increased from 5 to to 15 TL/kg, which will also push up the prices of the dried figs. Dried figs are purchased immediately by traders nowadays. Market players stated that they do not expect TMO to buy figs this year as the prices do not need any intervention to protect the farmers.
There are no extraordinary situations to report about the quality of the figs for so far. Still, it is too early to make firm statements about the quality as the harvest has just started. The Exporters Union will announce next week after their Meeting when the first exports of the new crop can start. Market players expect that this will be not earlier than the end of September. Exporters prefer to wait for at least one more week to give export prices.
Exporters are still processing and exporting their outstanding orders from the current crop on a high tempo.
Turkey exported 777 mt of dried figs and figs products last week, which was 532 mt during the same week of the previous year. The total orts range at 66.199 mt, which has now exceeded last year’s exports by 700 mt, being 65.493 mt in total in the same period.
