This year, olive oil prices in Greece have risen by 62%, according to a study by the Institute of Trade and Services of the National Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (IN.EMY.-ESEE). Now the cost of the product in the country averages about 8.99 euros per liter.
At the same time, the prices of Greek olive oil have decreased by 2-3 euros in recent weeks, experts said.
“The spread of prices is justified by taking into account the range of products of different quality, prices are indicative – the study included prices both in supermarket chains and in specialized retail stores,” the materials said.
Experts also noted that the Christmas table in Greece this year will cost about 11% more expensive than in 2022, and will cost 103-140 euros for 6-8 people.
Food prices have been rising significantly in Greece since 2021. The government has taken several measures to put the brakes on the price hikes and after a long period of continuous increases, there has been a stabilization of prices in the last 3-4 months. Specialists hope that food inflation will start to decline in the coming months.
