Taking into account the forecast of an increase in sunflower sowing area to 5.5 million hectares, there is already a certain shortage of seeds of elite genetics, said Yuriy Unrod, the head of the sunflower field at Strube Ukraine GmbH and added;
“The timing of the purchase of seeds is a very individual thing and depends primarily on the cash flows of farms. As usual, most agricultural enterprises try to enter tenders before the end of the year, because they want to reserve large volumes of orders.”
Unrod notes that the active market for the purchase of sunflower seeds will last from December to March-April 2023.
In the US, President Biden’s administration agreed to increase the percentage of biofuels in gasoline and diesel. In Canada, rapeseed oil is classified as a raw material for the production of biofuel, and in Europe, the processing facilities of the oil complex are fully loaded and continue to actively process sunflower and rapeseed.
