Are Grain Markets Recovering After the Decline?

Spread the news!

European Grain Markets

  • After a sharp fall in the previous few days in grain markets, wheat futures in Paris yesterday recovered – more significantly for an old and to a lesser extent for a new harvest
  • The same can be said about corn, but just as with wheat, and in view of the news from the US, for now is hardly more than a positive reaction in resold market
  • We had begun to think that rapeseed was serious in its intention to form a bottom, but yesterday’s performance is definitely not in that direction.

American Grain Markets

  • At its annual forum, the USDA announced its forecast for sown areas in the US in 2023 and contrary to the initial positive price reaction, wheat acreage is significantly above expectations.
  • The corn area forecast is slightly above average expectations, but also significantly higher than 2022. Soybean areas are below expectations, but also on a par with those sown last year

Black Sea Grain Markets

  • Today marks one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the country’s ability to export its products unhindered is again on the agenda.
  • International tenders for the supply of grain and vegetable oils remain the focus of exporters, but recent purchases by Egypt confirm a continuing price decline not only in wheat but also in sunflower oil
