Armenia extends export ban on sunflower and sunflower oil
On Thursday, June 29, the Armenian government decided to extend the export ban on sunflower seeds, sunflower oil, wheat, meslin, barley, corn and buckwheat. Commenting on this, Sputnik writes.
“The ban was extended for six months and applies to countries outside the EAEU. Domestic production does not cover the domestic market’s needs for these products, and the shortage is made up mainly by imports,” the report says.
It should be recalled that export restrictions were first introduced in the country in May last year. Their main goal was to increase food security and improve self-sufficiency in the main products of the food basket.
According to available information, Armenia has low domestic production of cereals (23.2%), sugar (33.9%), pork (53.2%) and pulses (37.3%).
“The country is also practically not self-sufficient in vegetable oil, with a self-sufficiency rate of only 0.6%,” the documents state.
