Australia Cut Feed Barley Exports and Increased Sorghum Shipments

According to the estimates of the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in March of this year 777.8 thousand tons of barley and 255.06 thousand tons of sorghum were exported from the country.

At the same time, it is noted that the shipment of fodder barley decreased to 636.2 thousand tons, which is 30% less than the figure of the previous month (911.1 thousand tons). The main volumes of grain were exported to Saudi Arabia (285.1 thousand tons), Vietnam (82.3 thousand tons) and the Philippines (60 thousand tons).

Also, the export of malt barley increased significantly – up to 141.6 thousand tons, which is almost three times higher than the result in February (41.2 thousand tons). Australia exported the main volumes of barley to Vietnam (32.6 thousand tons), Mexico (31.7 thousand tons) and Japan (21 thousand tons).

As for sorghum, in March of this year, grain shipments increased almost 5 times – to 255 thousand tons compared to only 53.1 thousand tons in February, against the background of the arrival of a new crop on the grain market.

The main buyer of Australian sorghum in March was China with a share of 91% of the total volume (232.9 thousand tons). In addition, 14.3 thousand tons of Australian sorghum were imported by Japan and 4.4 thousand tons by Taiwan.
