Farmers in Australia can collect at the end of the season 2023/24 about 37 thousand tons of sunflower, according to analysts of the National Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES). They note that the current result will repeat last year’s record, which saw the same volume of oilseed threshed.
“These two seasons, the country is receiving the largest sunflower harvest since the 2012/13 season,” the experts emphasized.
According to their estimates, most seeds will be harvested in New South Wales (a state in the southeast of Australia) – about 32 thousand tons, which is twice the average production of the region for the last 5 years.
Next will be Queensland (a state in the northeast of mainland Australia), where, as expected, will receive another 5 thousand tons of sunflower. This result is in line with the 2022/23 season, but almost 30% below the 5-year average.
