Canada to Harvest Less Canola – Forecast

Spread the news!

Agricultural producers of Canada may collect this year about 17.6 million tons of canola – it is more than 6% below the level of 2022. This forecast was released by experts of Statistics Canada.

In addition, the country is also expected to reduce the gross harvest of wheat – by 14% to 29.5 million tons. Experts attribute the decline to the summer drought in the western provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan, which are among the main producers of this product.

Thus, Alberta is expected to harvest 16.2% less wheat (9.5 million tons) than a year earlier,” the statistical agency added.

At the same time, forecasts for Canadian corn and soybean production are still 1.3% and 2.9% above last year’s levels, respectively – they amount to 14.7 million tons for the grain and 6.7 million tons for the oilseed.

The main planted areas for these crops are in Ontario, where the summer was not as dry as in Western Canada,” Statistics Canada summarized.
