KOCHI – Bearish trend continues in cardamom market due to selling pressure.
Cardamom prices have nosedived amid selling pressure. The benchmark south India market is constantly witnessing a bearish trend in cardamom. The average auction price recorded was $ 13.36 per kg.
As per the market estimates, cardamom production might be in the range of 45,000 – 50,000 tonnes this year against around 35,000 tonnes last year.
The bearish tone in cardamom is likely to continue in the short run as the next crop season begins by September this year. Thank to the favourable climate conditions, and growers expect decent crops this time.
A major factor behind the increase in production is the shift to cultivate cardamom leaving black pepper. This is because of the lower cost of production of cardamom compared to pepper.
