Cardamom Struggles to Spice Up Domestic Market

Spread the news!

The small cardamom market faces a significant slump, with trade activity increasingly sluggish. Despite a slight uptick in prices, the lack of sales and higher-than-normal costs have resulted in a stalemate in the domestic market.

Intermittent slowdown

Stockists are reluctant to buy small cardamom due to the relatively high arrival of the spice in auctions and intermittent slowdown. As a result, the spot and average auction prices for small cardamom have both seen a slowdown during the past few times. Although the recent arrival of small cardamom has decreased, it has not yet affected the sluggish offtake in the domestic market.

While the relatively low price of Indian small cardamom in the international market has not impacted its exports, it has made it challenging for Indian small cardamom to compete with the prices of Guatemala.

Market masters predict that almost average production during the current season and sound production in the new season will continue to impact market sentiment, and a significant rise in prices is unlikely. This means the small cardamom market may not experience a long boom in the near future.

The ^cardamom green 8 mm prices were recorded at $24,04 per kg FOB.
