According to the results of the past calendar year, China regained the status of the largest buyer of Russian agricultural and food products, which the Celestial Empire lost in 2021, the Federal Center for the Development of Exports of Agricultural Products (FSBI “Agroexport”) under the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
As follows from the materials of experts, the physical volume of supplies of agricultural products in 2022 increased by 36%,” and in monetary terms – by 44%.”
High demand for rapeseed
In particular, experts say, in the Asian market there is a high demand for domestic rapeseed oil. According to preliminary data of the FCS, over the past year, the export of these products to China increased by 2 times in physical terms, and in monetary terms – by 2.4 times: almost 70% of all rapeseed oil exports from the Russian Federation fell on China.
“The growth in supply volumes is associated with an increase in rapeseed production in 2022: if the gross production of rapeseed in 2021 was only 2.7 million tons, then in 2022 the volumes increased to 4.5 million tons. And in the current conditions, the PrC market is becoming a priority for our country,” said Sergey Tuchin, Director General of the Rosraps Association.
In addition, sales of vegetable meal and cake in 2022 increased in physical terms by 16 times, and in value terms by 7.7 times.
Shipments of soybeans to the Celestial Empire remained at the level of 2021, while export earnings increased by 55%.
According to Agroexport, Russia has the potential to further expand food supplies to China. Among the most promising categories are fish and seafood, cereals, meat products and vegetable oils.
