China Secures Significant Quantity of Ukrainian Corn for Animal Feed

Recent reports from European traders indicate that Chinese importers have made substantial purchases of animal feed corn from Ukraine over the past week, according to Nasdaq. While the exact volume remains undisclosed, it is believed that multiple shipments totaling at least 240 thousand tonnes were secured, with each shipment comprising approximately 60,000 tonnes. Moreover, more than 10 shipments have been contracted for loading between March and May.

The allure of Ukrainian corn lies in its competitive pricing, with market analysts noting that Ukrainian corn is currently among the most affordable options globally. Despite potential challenges associated with shipments from Ukrainian ports and disruptions in the Red Sea, Chinese buyers find the pricing advantageous.

The transactions were reportedly arranged for delivery in Chinese vessels via the Red Sea, with prices ranging between $227 to $230 USD (€209-212) per ton, including cost and freight (C&F) charges to China.

China has traditionally been a major purchaser of Ukrainian corn, with buying activities persisting in recent months despite transport disruptions stemming from Russia’s withdrawal from the U.N.-backed safe shipping corridor for Ukrainian grain exports last year.

Traders indicate that Ukrainian corn remains readily available in significant volumes throughout February, with additional shipments being offered for sale through Ukraine’s independent shipping channel.
