China in the period from October 2022 to July 2023 purchased about 8.8 million tons of basic vegetable oils – this is 73% higher than the level in the same period last season (5.07 million tons). Such data were released by experts of the Hamburg-based analytical agency OilWorld (Germany).
According to their estimates, palm oil imports to the Celestial Empire for 9 months of 2022/23 MY amounted to 5.46 million tons (3.48 million tons a year earlier), rapeseed oil – 1.65 million tons (0.87 million tons), sunflower oil – 1.38 million tons (0.46 million tons), soybean oil – 341 thousand tons (256 thousand tons).
The German agency also stressed that China’s oil import volumes in July were at a high level of 857,000 tons against 579,000 tons in the same month of 2022.
Imports of palm oil in the reporting period rose to 563 thousand tons, sunflower oil – to 130 thousand tons, rapeseed oil – to 126 thousand tons, soybean oil – to 38 thousand tons.
