China Significantly Reduced Soybean Imports From the USA

Last month China imported just over 142.1 thousand tons of soybeans of American origin, which is 235 thousand tons lower than in the same period last year. This is reported by Reuters, citing data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) of China.

The United States remains one of the key suppliers of soybeans to China. Their share in the structure of Chinese imports of this crop since the beginning of the year reached almost 32%. In physical terms, from January to July, the Asian market received 19.85 million tons of American beans (+13.9% for the year).

GTU reported that Brazil, in contrast, increased its sales to the PRC last month, up 32.4% to 9.23 million tons, offering local importers products at competitive prices.

In total, from January to July this year, China purchased 38.9 million tons of oilseed (+12.2% for the year) from the South American state, whose share in the total structure of oilseed sales to the Celestial Empire is 63.5% in 2023.
