TIANJIN: The Chinese lentils produced in 2021 are already on the market, but due to the low output, the price is much higher than the new product listing price in the same period last year, reaching US$1,550 per ton. After the lentils went on the market, traders had no panic buying because of the small output. The current export market is difficult and domestic demand has also decreased. Currently, foreign buyers mainly inquire about prices, hoping that prices will fall.
However, there is currently no impact from imported lentils; there is no downward price trend in the short term. If China imports large quantities of Canadian lentils, the market will be hit, and prices will fall. Traders predict that if the domestic market continues to weaken and the export situation does not improve, the cost of lentils may fall in the future. Importers will start buying after the price stabilizes. Traders always pay attention to the market situation in China’s lentil-producing areas and changes in the shipping market.
