Corn Sowing Has Started in France

According to FranceAgriMer monitoring, corn sowing has started in France, and as of April 3, 2% of the planned area was planted, which is only slightly lower than the previous year (3%).

As for the sowing of other grain crops, it is expected that this year the country will increase the area under soft wheat and reduce the area under spring barley.

In particular, the French Ministry of Agriculture expects the total area of soft wheat sowing this year to reach 4.76 mln ha (in 2022 – 4.77 mln ha), while it will be mainly winter grain.

FranceAgriMer experts also note that as of April 3, 93% of the country’s soft wheat crops are in good to excellent condition, compared to 94% a week earlier (92% a year earlier), and 92% of the durum wheat area is in good to excellent condition (+1% w/w; 85% a year earlier).
