Dried Figs: Cash Aid for Affected Growers

Market players reported that there is not much activity in the markets. While the raw material prices remained the same, the export prices dropped. As informed before, there is not much raw material left at the market. Demands from abroad are still weak, but exporters are, as before, also not eager to sell. Weather conditions are currently favorable, but it is too early to make a new season statement.
In Aydın, one of Turkey’s important agricultural centers, the drought and extreme heat that were effective last year harmed the fig trees. While the trees came to the point of drying, there was a yield loss in figs. The Presidency was not indifferent to the producers’ requests for help. The Presidency of Administrative Affairs announced that 5 million Turkish Lira in cash aid will be provided to 4 thousand 470 farmers.

Today the Usd/TL rate was noted at 14.36 TL (13.81 last week) and Euro/TL rate at 15.64 TL levels (15.51 last week).

Turkey exported 1837 mt of dried figs and figs products last week, which was 1642 mt during the same week of the previous year. The total exports range at 42.630 mt, being 44.314 mt in total in the same period last year
