Dried Figs: Raw material is running out

Market players reported that the raw material prices are slightly increasing as the raw material runs out. It is stated that it will be hard to find products suitable for export in the market after the New Year. Traders increased the prices as they realized that exporters still buy. Prices did not fall due to the depreciation of the Turkish Lira against foreign currencies of last weeks. 

Tariş will buy approx 7.000 mt of figs 

Tariş Fig Union President Mustafa Bircan noted that they continue to purchase figs and have reached a daily purchase capacity of 65 tons from time to time. 

Bircan stated that they have reached 5.000 mt of the product since the beginning of the season, “We buy nearly 7.000 mt of product every year. I think we will reach those figures this year as well. But this season, the sizes of figs are a little small. Last year, dried figs were between 3 TL and 30 TL/kg. “This season, we are buying products ranging from 12 TL to 36 TL/kg. Prices vary according to size. We are living in a season where manufacturers smile in terms of price,” he said. 

Tariş Fig Union management met to determine the fig purchase prices in Aydın recently. As a result of the meeting, the price for A1 quality (between 36-40 figs) is 36 TL/kg, 34 TL/kg for A2 quality (between 41-45), 32 TL/kg for A3 quality (between 46-50) is determined. Figs, traded between 20-25 TL/kg last year, are traded between 30-36 TL/kg this year. Growers are satisfied. Although the harvest is low due to drought, prices fill that gap. 

Exports continue in a regular course, but the total exported is lower than last year. Today, the Turkish Lira noted the Usd/TL rate at 9.67 TL ( 9,51 last week) and Euro/TL rate at 11.22 TL levels ( 11.03 last week).    

 Turkey exported 2504 mt of dried figs and figs products which were 2660 mt during the same week of last year. The total exports range at 16.130 mt, which was 18 046 mt in total in the same period last year.
