Between November 2021 and October 2022, Turkey increased its olive oil exports in monetary terms by 50% to 3.75 trillion lira ( €190 million ). These data were published by specialists from the Association of Exporters of the Aegean Sea (Ege İhracatçı Birlikleri, EIB).

According to experts, such indicators in the period under review were achieved due to the growth of world prices for the product and an increase in deliveries from Turkey abroad in physical terms.

Thus, from November to October, 58 thousand tons of olive oil were exported from the country compared to 44 thousand tons in the same period of the previous season.

According to the EIB, the United States has become the main importer of oil from Turkey, spending almost €71.5 million on its purchases. Spain and Japan were in second and third positions – these countries imported €22.9 million and €16.2 million, respectively.

At the same time, Turkey has every opportunity to increase shipments this season due to a weak olive harvest in Europe, Alper Alhat, chairman of the Akhisar Commodity Exchange, said.

“This will be a great export opportunity, ” he says. “We think that this year the number of deliveries will increase because we are talking about a product that is not widely available in the world, but is abundant in Turkey.”
