Ukraine and the European Union have agreed to combine initiatives to preserve and increase forests, the press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine reports.

Ukraine’s initiative to restore forests is fully in line with the EU’s new forest strategy until 2030, which envisages planting 3 billion trees by 2030, said Ruslan Strilets, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, during a joint visit to the European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virgijunius Sinkevicius to the breeding and seed center in Zhytomyr region.

The Ukrainian initiative is in line with the UN Strategic Plan on Forests for 2017-2030, one of the goals of which is to increase the area of forests by 3%.

Sinkevičius noted that Ukraine’s forestry practices are indicative of Europe, as Ukraine continues to lay forests in the de-occupied territories where they were completely burned by the occupiers, as well as to implement the pre-war program of reforestation.
