The EU Commission announced that the new Common Agricultural Policy will enter into force on January 1, 2023. In the statement, it was pointed out that the Commission approved the agriculture strategic plans of all member states and said, “A total of €264 billion of EU funding will support European farmers in the transition to a sustainable and robust agricultural sector, helping to maintain the vitality and diversity of rural areas.”
307 billion euros
Reminding that member states will also provide co-financing and complementary support for agriculture, the statement noted that the total public budget allocated to farmers and rural communities for the 2023-2027 period will be 307 billion euros.
The statement said that 20 billion euros of basic income support will be provided to eligible farmers each year within the scope of direct payments.
Pointing out that higher income support will be given to small and medium-sized farms, it was reported that support will increase for those who plant protein-containing crops.
The statement pointed out that 98 billion euros of agricultural policy funds will be allocated to climate, water, soil, air, biodiversity and animal welfare.
Special support to be provided to young farmers
Underlining that special support will be provided to young farmers, the statement said that a total of 8.5 billion euros of public spending will be made available to young farmers in their first years of activity.
The new agricultural policy, which will enter into force in 2023, includes strengthening biodiversity and encouraging farmers to adopt climate-neutral and environmentally friendly practices.
