Agricultural producers in the EU can thresh about 20.4 million tons of rape by the end of season 2023/24, which is 1 million tons higher than the expected level of 2022/23 MY. Such a forecast was published in the report of analysts of consulting company Stratégie Grains, having increased its estimation in comparison with the previous one by 400 thousand tons. Adjustments occurred on the background of favorable weather conditions in Germany, Poland, France and Romania.
The gross harvest of sunflowers in the EU in the coming year is expected at the level of 11.3 million tons, which is 100 thousand tons higher than last month and 2.1 million tons more than in 2022/23 MY.
“Good oilseed crop prospects in Romania and Hungary are expected to offset the negative impact of the drought on crops in Spain and the reduction in planted area in France due to cool, wet weather,” according to industry experts.
In the meantime, soybean production was reduced by 200 thousand tons, to 3 million tons (+0.5 million tons for the year). The decline is due to excessively wet weather conditions in Italy.
