In October, export demand for barley increased slightly in Ukraine. It was the result of improved performance of the Black Sea ports.
For the moment purchasing prices for barley in Odesa port are 115-125 USD/t. As barley is certified for China the grain purchase has increased and 50 thousand tons of grain have already been booked with delivery to China. If shipments through the ports of Odessa intensify, prices for barley may increase by 5 -10 USD/t. But analysts say that we shouldn’t expect a significant increase.
At the same time, barley is not exported from the Danube ports, although the indicative price is 125-130 USD/t.
The best price for barley is now on the western borders. Purchasing prices reach 135-140 USD/t, but demand in this direction is insignificant.
The greatest demand for barley remains in the domestic market of Ukraine. Processing plants are the main buyers and offer 4500-4800 UAH/t for barley. In the near future, domestic prices will remain stable, experts say.
