Finland has decided to expand the emergency stock of grain, thereby increasing the estimated time of its consumption from 6 to 8.5 months. The decision was made due to the difficult security situation according to the HVK Strategic Supply Center.
“Additional purchases of oats, wheat and barley are meant to prepare for disruptions in a changed security environment that could remain challenging for several years,” the Center said.
Additional stock for 2.5 months consumption
It is planned to create an additional stock corresponding to approximately 2.5 months of consumption. Currently, six months ‘ worth of grain is stored in state stockpiles in case of an emergency. It is emphasized that additional purchases will create reserves for about 8.5 months.
