The Association of Agricultural Cooperatives Deutscher Raiffeisenverband (DRV) has published the first forecast for rapeseed production in Germany for 2023, the assessment of specialists is at the level of 4.2 million tons (-0.1 million tons to the level of 2022).
At the same time, according to the DRV, it is expected to increase the sown areas under oilseeds by 100 thousand hectares – up to 1.2 million hectares.
A noticeable reduction in the harvest may occur in the grain complex: for example, the wheat harvest is estimated at 22 million tons (-0.5 million tons compared to last year) from 2.9 million hectares (unchanged), barley – 10.9 million tons (-0.3 million tons) from 1.6 million hectares (unchanged), corn – 3.8 million tons (unchanged) from 1.6 million hectares (-0.1 million hectares).
“A lower harvest is expected against the background of a reduction in the area under grain,” the DRV explains.
Recall that rapeseed is the main oilseed crop for the EU countries. Its share in the total structure of the gross harvest is estimated at more than 60%.
