Ginger Prices on Fire, and It’s Likely to Remain High

Spread the news!

Ginger is the spicy superhero of the culinary world, adding flavor and heat to dishes and providing a variety of health benefits. But recent market trends have left ginger lovers feeling the heat in more ways than one.

Shortage of ginger

Farmers have sold off nearly their entire crop of ginger due to attractive prices, resulting in a shortage of ginger available for making dry ginger. This scarcity has caused the price of ginger to rise and is expected to continue its upward trajectory in the coming days. However, a rise in temperature due to the onset of summer may impact market sentiment.

Despite the above-average temperatures in producing states like Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Assam, the arrival of ginger and dry ginger remains weak. This has led to sluggishness in the dry ginger market and an increase in buying by stockists, causing a significant jump in dry ginger prices.

The situation is not expected to change anytime soon. Farmers have been less interested in making dry ginger for several years, even with attractive prices. However, Aurangabad’s saunth, a type of ginger, remains attractive to millers due to its comparatively low price.

In the meantime, the availability of ginger for making dry ginger is very low, with ginger only arriving from Bangalore, where producers have already sold 90-95% of their crops. Thus, to end things, the future of the market for dry ginger seems to be positive, However, due to the onset of summer, there is a fear of a reduction in its rise.
