Groundnut Sowing Decreased All Around the Work: Market Prospects to Remain Strong

Groundnut sowing in Gujarat has come down by 10 percent during the current season. The State Agriculture Department has given this information in its latest figures. The department has informed that this time due to a decrease in sowing of this major Kharif oil seed in four out of five major producing areas, this decrease is being observed in the total sown area of groundnut.

In the current season, a total of 17,08,200 hectares have been sown in Gujarat. It was sown around 19,09,600 hectares last season.  There has been a total reduction of 2,01,400 hectares or 10.54 percent in sowing.

Saurashtra is the largest groundnut-producing region of Gujarat. In its latest data, the State Agriculture Department has informed that in the current season date, a total of 13,40,400 hectares of groundnut have been sown. Previous year It was sown on 15,34,200 hectares. This clearly shows that this time so far, there has been a decrease of 1,93,800 hectares or 12.63 percent in groundnut sowing in Saurashtra.

North Gujarat is the second largest producer in the state. The Department in its latest data has further informed that a total of 2,88,400 hectares of groundnut have been sown in North Gujarat during the current season so far. It was 3,17,800 hectares in the same period a year ago. In the present season groundnut sown in North Gujarat has decreased by 29,400 hectares or 9.25 percent.

One more important region is Kutch. The Department has said that till the date of the current season Groundnut has been sown on a total of 65 thousand hectares in Kutch. It was 38,900 hectares in this area during the period under review of last season. So far there has been a jump of 26,100 hectares or 67.09 percent in the sowing of groundnut in Kutch.

The data further got released by the state in Central Gujarat states that groundnut has been sown in only 8500 hectares so far compared to 11,300 hectares in the previous period.

Groundnut sowing has also decreased in South Gujarat. In its latest data, it has been reported that groundnut has been sown in only 5,900 hectares in southern Gujarat during the current season so far. It was sown on 7400 hectares in the same period a year ago. There has been a decrease of 1500 hectares or 20.27 percent in its sowing in the area.

Sowing of groundnut in Banaskantha decreased by 15 to 20%, yield would also decreased by 2 to 5%.

In Banaskantha, which is the largest producer of groundnut in North Gujarat, the sowing of groundnut has decreased by 15 to 20% in the current year and due to continuous rain from July 1 to August 20 and continuous cloud cover in the atmosphere, the yield of groundnut has also decreased by 2. In South China’s Henan and Shandong, 50% of the total production of peanuts is produced. In both these regions of China, there was heavy heat last week and 20% of the crop is estimated to be damaged. Groundnut production in China is expected to decline by 20% in the current year.

There is a heavy summer in the delta region of America and there is a perception of decreasing yield due to lack of rain. In the US, the area under groundnut has decreased by 5% in the current year. Groundnut sowing in America will reduce by 5% and production by 7.62%. Heavy heat and lack of rainfall have reduced yields by 12.57% in Alabama, 27.94% in Mississippi, 35.87% in New Mexico, and 13.45% in Texas.

Production in Argentina decreased by 16% and exports are also expected to decline by 16%. Due to the increase in agricultural input costs, farmers in Argentina had reduced the sowing of groundnut in the current year.

Though sowing is less compared to the previous year, the Groundnut crop condition in Saurashtra is very good at present. Due to the rainy conditions and after that the atmosphere is open, there is a possibility of increasing the yield of groundnut by 10 to 12%., the production of groundnut is likely to be at least 2.7 to 3.0 million tonnes. Only if heavy rain arrives, there is a possibility of damage to the groundnut crop. The price of new crop peanuts is being traded in future-forward booking at a high price. Experts state that the price of groundnut is not likely to decrease in the current year.
