ODESSA – Despite ongoing rains in Ukraine, farmers started harvesting early grains in the Southern regions of Ukraine.
The press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reported that Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Odessa, and Kherson regions had completed a total of 75 thousand hectares area. Considering an average output per hectare of 3.6 mt (in 2020, it was 2.6 mt/ha), elevators received 274 thousand tons of grains. The highest average yield is in the Odessa region, with 4.2 mt/ha. It is expected that the average yield in the country will grow when the Central and North regions start harvesting.
Meanwhile, the new crop barley price drop continues. At the moment, it is already around 190 USD/mt CPT main ports with almost 40 USDd/t decrease during the last 3 weeks. Farmers have to sell their first volumes to cover expenses for the harvesting campaign. Otherwise, such a big decrease could hardly be possible.
