Hungarian Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said that the same quality control requirements will apply to Ukrainian grain in Hungary as to grain grown in the European Union.
According to the Minister, such a step is aimed at helping Hungarian farmers who may suffer from an increase in imports of cheaper Ukrainian grain.
“Imported crops grown in much less severe production conditions reduce prices, creating significant competitive advantages. However, Brussels does not help Hungarian farmers and continues to do nothing to eliminate this competitive advantage,” the minister said.
Nagy also warned Hungarian business about the responsibility for the use of Ukrainian grain, which did not pass the quality assessment in Hungary.
The Ministry clarified that Hungary will not apply the new rules on Ukrainian grain, which is delivered in transit to the countries of Africa and Asia.
