ODESA: In 2022 the buckwheat harvest in Ukraine may reach 140 thousand tons. 8% of the area has already been harvested. Farmers have already threshed 12.6 thousand tons. In total, this year the grain sowing area in Ukraine increased by 1.5 times.
Buckwheat will be harvested by the end of September, and from October it will be available to Ukrainian consumers. The price for buckwheat is expected to reduce from October end. For the moment the retail price of buckwheat in Ukrainian supermarkets is around 2 EUR/KG.
Domestic production will be with sufficient stock to provide Ukrainians with buckwheat for the whole year. Even in order to form the necessary transitional reserve.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the annual domestic consumption of buckwheat in Ukraine is estimated at 110 thousand tons. In previous years, Ukraine had to import some of the buckwheat stocks from Russia and Kazakhstan.
