Food prices in Germany in August rose by 16.6% compared to the same month last year – a monthly increase has been recorded in the country for the sixth month in a row. This was reported by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis).
According to experts, prices for goods in the category ” Fats and oils ” increased most of all last month – by 44.5%. Also in August, dairy products and eggs became much more expensive in Germany – by almost 27%.
German consumers also had to pay significantly more for meat and meat products (+18.6%), bread and cereals (+17.1%).
In general, inflation in Germany accelerated in August and amounted to 7.9% . In July, this figure was at the level of 7.5%. It was in June – 7.6%.
“Rising energy prices are still the main reason for high inflation,” said Georg Thiel, head of the Federal Statistical Office.
