Some shipments that were already sent from India to Russia and Ukraine have to stay in Sea. Russia is can not make payments for all the commodities. Payments are on hold and shipments are on hold. According to the experts, there is approximately 10 to 30 percent decline in the planting of white sesame in the summer season, and assumptions are that black sesame planting will also be less. Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, export demand is reduced.
The new summer sesame crop will come after three months in the local market, but given the current situation, it isn’t easy to get a supply that lasts for three months. The farmers and stockists do not have enough sesame seeds stock.
In Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, the entire stock held from the last 2-3 years is over by now. Thus, sesame prices will likely rise by $0,10 to 0,15 per kg.
In Saurashtra, the cultivation of black sesame will be less this year as the difference in prices of black sesame and white sesame is nominal.
White and black sesame prices are expected to remain range-bound till May 15. With the opening of hulling factories in Turkey, Egypt, Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, Brazil, Peru, and Myanmar, there are now more alternates to the hulling factories apart from India.
The price of sesame in the local market in India is low. All oil-seeds prices except sesame have seen a good rise. Similarly, all oil seeds except sesame oil have seen a significant upgrade, but sesame or crude oil prices have not gone up. Many problems have now arisen in the trade of sesame with Korea due to the new pesticide regulations. The Indian sesame suppliers are unwilling to trade with Korea as 510 pesticide test rules have been implemented instead of the previous ones. It will even affect the next Korean tender as the Indian bids will be comparatively less.
The market for white sesame will fluctuate, However, if any new demand comes along with it, the price of sesame can go up by $0,10 to 0,15 per kg in the next month.
Due to the shortage of excellent quality in natural sesame, the possibility of price reduction is more petite. The lack of good quality raw sesame is increasing day by day.
Currently, the need for Indian sesame seeds is uncertain. Preliminary estimates are that sesame cultivation will reduce in Saurashtra after announcing that Narmada water will be available to farmers at 25% less.
