In a notable development, the volume of rail transportation of Kazakh grain cargo to China has witnessed a significant surge in the second half of February 2024, following several weeks of decline. This information comes from the weekly report of APK-Inform Asia, citing current official statistics.
During the period from February 15 to 21, a total of 13.84 thousand tonnes of grain cargo from Kazakhstan were shipped to China, marking a remarkable increase of 7.6 times compared to the previous week, February 8-14, 2024.
Additionally, shipments of Kazakh grain to Tajikistan also experienced a notable uptick, rising by 52% to reach 24.2 thousand tonnes.
Uzbekistan, a leading importer, received approximately 80 thousand tonnes of Kazakh grain cargo, representing a 19% increase from the previous week’s 67.2 thousand tonnes.
However, shipments to Italy and Afghanistan witnessed declines, reaching 7.37 thousand tonnes (-6.5%) and 6 thousand tonnes (-7%) respectively.
On a positive note, shipments of Kazakh grains to other export destinations saw a collective increase of 28.5%, indicating diversified market opportunities and growing demand in various regions.
