Sunflower oil in Latvia is more expensive than in Estonia, according to BB.lv. According to the newspaper, Latvians have long noticed a sharp price difference in local stores compared to outlets in other countries and do not hide their indignation about it.
According to the article, the Baltic Republic is a country of “particularly high prices“, including in large retail chains. At the same time, in Lithuania and Estonia, the same goods can be purchased at a lower price from the same seller.
At the same time, the local media, having studied the offers of online stores of large retail chains in the Baltic countries, did not see a significant difference in the cost of basic products within the same retail chain. In some cases, the price of goods was higher in Lithuania and Estonia.
However, the cost of some products was surprising. For example, Inguna Gulbe, head of the Agricultural Market Support Center, pointed out that the price of sunflower oil in Latvia and Estonia differs three times – and not in favor of buyers in Latvia.
The competition supervisory authorities started to check whether the price policy of traders in Latvia is justified. The results of the study are to be presented in the fall.
According to Gulbe, in Estonia, unlike the Latvian market, customers have more choices, and competition between chains is higher, which is one of the reasons for the price difference.
