The shipping company Maersk introduced the first deep-sea container service in Ukraine after the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
As noted, Maersk is using a vessel with a capacity of 1100+ TEU to connect the Ukrainian deep-water port of Chernomorsk with the Romanian container terminal of the port of Constanta. This is a part of cooperation with the Ukrainian feeder operator Iteris.
Market players expect shipping volumes to double over the coming months as more shipping lines join the service. With the addition of one more vessel, shipments will likely be made directly to Ukraine from Egypt and Türkiye, as was before the full-scale invasion.
Previously, Iteris and Maersk collaborated on the delivery of goods by barge, transporting containers between the port of Reni and Constanta. However, the launch of a deep-sea service led to the cancellation of such a service. The last barge will sail on June 15th.
In addition, the Turkish shipping company Akkon also launched a feeder service with its own vessels to the port of Chernomorsk.
