Moldova intends to increase the production of soybeans, for this purpose the Ministry of Agriculture expects to attract investors to the cultivation of this crop. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Food Minister Vladimir Bolia.

He specified that the increase in the gross harvest of the oilseed will contribute to the reduction of import dependence in the field of fodder.

“Soybean crop is subsidized by state”

Soybean is an important crop for the implementation of crop rotation, this crop is subsidized by the state,” Bolya explained. – “Since beans retain nitrogen in the soil, this reduces the need to apply significant amounts of nitrogen fertilizer for the subsequent harvest, especially when their cost has increased significantly. Every year we import significant amounts of soybean meal, which is essential for livestock development.”

The minister also added that it is important to develop local soybean processing as well in Moldova, as this will create new opportunities for the food industry and help “better uptake of the soybean crop in both domestic and international markets.”

2.000 lei per hectare

It should be recalled that 25,000 hectares have been allocated for soybean cultivation in the country this year. The crop is grown most of all in the northern regions of Moldova due to climatic conditions. The state subsidizes two thousand lei (Euro 103) for each hectare.
