Moldova will not impose restrictions on the import of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture Vladimir Bolea on one of the programs of TVR Moldova, writes NewsMaker.
“Introducing restrictions on imports would not solve anything. This would neither increase selling prices for Moldovan farmers nor reduce costs. This solution would give zero results. On the contrary, Ukraine would impose restrictions on the import of Moldovan products, and then much would be lost,” said Bolya.
The Minister noted that the volume of imports of agricultural products from Ukraine is insignificant. Elevators in Moldova allow storing about 3 million tons of agricultural products, so local farmers have a place to store grain. At the same time, the ministry will closely monitor imports in order to take timely measures to support Moldovan farmers.
Bolea also commented on a possible ban on the transit of grain from Ukraine through Moldova.
“Transit does not affect us negatively. Thanks to the transit, the “Railway of Moldova” was able to rehabilitate itself, the enterprise paid wages and even increased it. The problem arises with road freight transport – waiting at customs in Romania. We are interested in the development of railway transport. It is much more profitable than road transport,” the Minister of Agriculture emphasized.
