A small number of vessels enter the Danube ports and only through a high freight rate. The Danube ports are working – barges and sea vessels are docked. But because of the shelling, there is a disappointing trend — only a small number of vessels are ready to enter the ports because the freight rate is high now.
Dmytro Kazanin, the owner and director of the logistics and forwarding company “Teus” explained the situation to Ukragroconsult.
“As for barges, the freight rate from Izmail to Constanta remains at €44/t. For comparison: before the shelling, it was possible to charter a barge for €18/t, while loading and sending a vessel to Constanta was about $13-15/t. That is, it was cheaper to take a vessel than a barge.”
He added that there is no shortage of barges. There are Romanian partners who have permission to enter Ukrainian ports with their barges. Barges for loading are also provided by one of the largest operators of the fleet on the Danube – “Ukrainian Danube Shipping“.
