Polish Farmers Threaten to Block Medyka-Shehyni

Spread the news!

Polish farmers will renew their blockade of the Medyka-Shehyni border crossing with Ukraine if they do not receive written confirmation from the Polish government that their demands will be met by 3 January (yesterday). This was stated by one of the protest organizers, Roman Kondrov, Apk-inform reported according to RAR agency.

We want to receive such assurances in writing, and I, in particular, will discuss them with Deputy Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski on 3 January. It is important for us to have written assurances that our demands will be met. If the minister cannot give such an assurance, the prime minister should write it,” he said.

He also recalled that the main demands of the protesters are the introduction of subsidies for maize production, an increase in the amount of liquid loans for farmers, as well as the maintenance of the agricultural tax at last year’s level.

If we do not receive written confirmation that our demands will be met, we will return to the blockade. But if everything is done, the protest will definitely end,” R. Kondrov stressed.

We remind you that the blockade of the checkpoint “Medyka-Shehyni” started on 23 November, but after negotiations with the new head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture, Czeslaw Sekerski, the action was suspended on 24 December. The waiting time for trucks at the border is 91 hours.
