Negotiations between representatives of the Ukrainian government and Polish hauliers on the unblocking of checkpoints on the border of Poland and Ukraine, which took place on November 13, have not yet brought results. Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure Serhiy Derkach, who headed the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations, announced this on his Facebook page.
Absurdity of the demand
“The core demand of the protesters is the reinstatement of the permit system for cargo transportation, a matter not addressed in recent discussions. The critical stance for Ukraine is the continuation and extension of transport visa-free. At least until our victory comes. The absurdity of the demand is that the Polish hauliers are not directing their appeals to their own government but are urging Ukraine to approach the EU for permits,” stated Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach
Serhiy Derkach also added that the Ukrainian side is trying to find compromises “in order to increase the throughput and fulfill the agreements of already concluded! memoranda, but it’s difficult.” In particular, it was proposed to the Polish authorities to open lanes for empty trucks on the “Ugryniv – Dolgobychiv” and “Hrushiv – Budomezh” highways.
“We do not back down and insist: the border blockade is a violation of a number of agreements. And the border should be unlocked immediately,” the deputy minister emphasized.
