In Poland, prices for basic foodstuffs rose by almost 24% in August. This is stated in the report “Price Index in Retail Stores” from analysts at the research center UCE Research and the Higher School of Banking.
It is noted that the growth in the cost of food in the country is rapidly gaining momentum: for example, in May the rise in price was 17%, in June – 18%, in July – 18.6%.
According to experts, sunflower oil and margarine rose in price most of all in the reporting period – by 73.2% and 58.4%, respectively. Butter also noticeably increased in price – about 45%.
Sugar, flour, rice, meat, cheese and eggs were also included in the list of food items that have risen in price.
Food costs continue to rise due to the conflict in Ukraine, which has disrupted supply chains, rising energy prices, weakening the zloty and raising the cost of imports, experts say.
The Retail Price Index analyzed 12 product categories. In total, almost 40 thousand stores belonging to 63 retail chains were studied.
