Pumpkin kernel: Weekly news on new crop

DALIAN – In China, the current weather is good for the growth of pumpkins in the fields. However, the total cultivated area in Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang has decreased by about 15 %. The area under cultivation in the Northeast region has been reduced by half. For this reason, many exporters are speculating on higher prices than in the past season.

GWS is also growing well so far. The pumpkins are not yet fully grown, but the plants look good. The sowing area for the new crop is increasing a little, and total production is estimated at around 10,000 tonnes.

Exporters are disposing of their stocks to make room for the new crop. For this reason, there is an oversupply, which has led to falling prices.

The freight continues to move upwards and is becoming more and more of a problem for exporters, who find it difficult to pass on the rising price to their customers. According to statements by the shipping companies, the situation of further price increases on sea freight will not change until the end of 2021.
