Record Corn Production in Turkey is Expected

Spread the news!

This year, corn production in Turkey is expected to reach 7 million tons, breaking the record in the history of the Republic. While farmers were satisfied with the prices in the market during the first crop draws, those who planted second crop corn planted at a loss due to falling prices. Sector representatives state that corn planting will decrease next year due to low prices, but livestock farmers will plant for roughage. Despite the purchase guarantee of 5,700 liras per ton announced by the Turkish Grain Board (TMO), the price per ton of corn fell to 4,300 liras in Central Anatolia due to the humidity. In the Southeastern Anatolia Region, it is also stated that the prices have decreased up to 3,500 liras due to the high moisture content in corn.

“Farmers should not sell their products cheaply”

Emphasizing that prices in the free market vary according to the moisture content, Adana Farmers’ Union President Mutlu Doğru said that prices in Konya Karapınar fell to between 4,300 and 4,500 liras. “In his meeting with the General Manager of TMO, the warehouses and payments are ready. There is no problem in their purchases. We will buy as much product as the producers bring registered in the ÇKS system.” Doğru continued as follows; “The price announced by TMO is higher than the market. TMO’s drying facilities are also open. Farmers should not take their products in a hurry and sell them cheaply. It is the right time for TMO to step in for corn purchases. Farmers should not panic and should definitely get a price from TMO. TMO is prepared and on our side in this regard.”
