The Government of Romania approved a resolution regulating the import of four crops from Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Romania, Florin Barbu, at a briefing following the results of the government meeting on October 13.
“The import of wheat, corn, sunflower seeds and soybeans will be allowed only with the permission of the Ministry of Agriculture and only for farmers and processors who prove that they need these quantities to replenish stocks,” the minister said.
Also, only those grains from Ukraine that meet the quality standards of the National Administration of Veterinary Sanitation and Food Safety of Romania can be used for processing or as feed.
“This mechanism has been agreed with both Romanian farmers and the authorities of Ukraine,” emphasized F. Barbu, adding that the specified resolution will be valid until December 31, 2023.
In addition, the minister informed about the planned meeting with his colleague from Moldova. During the meeting, the grain stocks of Moldovan farmers will be analyzed and a new licensing mechanism for grain that will be transported to Romania will be agreed upon.
