Railway deliveries are growing in Russia, especially for Türkiye and China. For the first 6 months of 2022, 27 mln tonnes of food cargo were loaded on the Russian Railways network, which is 25% (or 6 mln tonnes) more year-on-year, said Konstantin Grigoriev, representative of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Belarus, reports SenatInfo.
As the official noted, traditionally, in Q2 grain transportation seasonally decreases, but this year, taking into account the record harvest of 2022, the shipment rates, especially for export, remained quite high. So in January-June 2023, 11.2 mln tonnes of grain were exported, which is 2.2 times more y-o-y.
“Main export of grains accounts for wheat, and its key consumers are African countries. At the same time, new trends have emerged. So, for 6 months of the current year, deliveries to Türkiye and the countries of Southeast Asia, mainly to China, are growing,” K. Grigoriev said.
In addition, the CIS countries are highly interested in Russian grain. In particular, deliveries to Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan increased by 1.5 times due to wheat, barley, and corn.
