Since the start of the 2022/23 season (September-July), EU countries have been the biggest importer of Ukrainian sunflower oil – about 2.25m tons. This data was published by experts of the Hamburg-based analytical agency OilWorld (Germany). According to their estimates, the EU has increased imports of the product by almost 0.6 million tons to the same period of the previous MY.
In addition, according to experts, for 11 months increased supplies and in the direction of Türkiye – from 0.19 million tons (September-July 2021/22 MY) to 1.03 million tons.
“In general, exports of Ukrainian sunflower oil in 2022/23 MY reached 5.2 million tons, which is 1.1 million tons more than the result in September-July of the previous season,” the report said.
Experts also raised their estimate of sunflower processing in the country in the current agricultural year to 12.7 million tons amid active sales of finished products.
In addition, analysts record an increase in the production potential of sunflower itself due to improved weather conditions. Harvest of oilseeds in 2023/24 MY is expected to be at the level of 14 million tons (+2.1 million tons to 2022/23 MY).
