Starting December 11, Slovak hauliers will resume blocking the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. This was announced by the Union of Road Hauliers of Slovakia (UNAS), which initiated the blocking of the checkpoint on December 1-4 this year.
“It was decided to continue the protest action at the border crossing “Vyshne-Nemetske”/”Uzhgorod” from 3:00 p.m. on December 11, 2011” the Union’s Facebook page said. As specified, the Slovak hauliers intend to block the entry of trucks from Ukraine into Slovakia. The movement of other vehicles will not be restricted. The period during which the protest will last is not specified.
UNAS added that the decision to resume the blockade was made “based on an assessment of the information received and its impact on the Slovak road transport market.”
The main demand of the protesters is to restore the permit regime for Ukrainian carriers in the EU.
