Slovakia has imposed new restrictive embargoes on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products, according to a document approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday. Previously, the embargo affected only imports of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds, now the list has been expanded to 14 items.
“Taking into account the protection of Slovakia’s interests and the need to prevent serious disruptions in the economy … it is proposed to ban the import of [a number of] Ukrainian agricultural products and goods” follows from the document approved by the Cabinet.
The explanatory note states that the expanded list of goods includes soybeans, barley, flour, bran, honey and others. At the same time, the document notes, Slovakia allowed the transit of goods through its territory.
On September 15, the European Commission decided not to extend restrictions on imports of four items of Ukrainian agricultural products to several EU border countries. After that, the authorities of Slovakia, Hungary and Poland extended the ban unilaterally, extending it to some other products.
