Sowing rates for soybeans and corn in the USA are well ahead of last year, according to a report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS USDA).
By May 14, U.S. farmers had completed 49 percent of oilseed field work, far more than at the same date last year (27 percent) and the average for the past five years (36 percent), according to the report.
The sunflower planting campaign has just begun – 1% of the planned planting has been sown.
The corn sowing rate is 20% ahead of the 2022 schedule. By the middle of this month, 65% of the planned area of corn has been sown (45% last year and 59% on average over the past five years).
Work on spring wheat is more active than last year (37%) and now the crop is already 40% of the fields.
“The condition of winter wheat crops has improved as compared with the previous week. The share of crops in “bad” and “very bad” condition decreased from 44% to 41%. A year earlier, this figure was also 41%,” the NASS USDA says.
