Spice on Fire: Dry Ginger Expected to Maintain its Vigor

Spread the news!

The aromatic spice of dry ginger is anticipated to retain its robustness in the days ahead as prices continue to soar. Like its fresh counterpart, ginger, dry ginger is expected to remain strong amidst the current market trends.

With the monsoon season drenching South India, including Kerala and Karnataka, and heavy rainfall gracing Northeast India in May, the supply of ginger is predicted to increase. Consequently, the wholesale fruit and vegetable market in the capital city of Delhi witnessed ginger prices skyrocketing to a record-breaking high. Meanwhile, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and Assam experienced above-normal temperatures. Attracted by the unexpectedly attractive price, farmers swiftly sold off their ginger crops.

The scarcity of arrivals and limited availability have impacted the production of dry ginger. This scarcity, coupled with rising temperatures, has caused stockists to be sluggish in acquiring dry ginger. Additionally, the Kochi market in Kerala has experienced a shortage of pressure since introducing new dry ginger. The primary reason behind the surge in ginger prices can be attributed to producers selling off 90-95 percent of their stock due to the enticing price.

While millers in Aurangabad show a strong affinity towards dry ginger from that region, other states witness a sluggish demand. The arrival of dry ginger in Kochi has been minimal, leading to a recent price decline. The comparatively lower price of Aurangabad’s dry ginger attracts millers, contributing to its popularity. Despite ginger prices remaining appealing throughout the country, farmers have exhibited a decreased interest in ginger production in recent years.

Considering the buying patterns of millers in Aurangabad and the limited availability in Kochi, dry ginger is expected to maintain its strength in the market. With record-breaking prices and weather factors, the future looks promising for this fiery spice.
